Arrive
A lamp is placed high so its light can reach the room. Visibility is not the enemy; the question is what visibility serves.
Read the passage and notice where the attention finally goes.
Reflect
Jesus says “you are,” addressing a community before listing accomplishments. Light begins as a shared identity received in relationship to him.
Good works are meant to be seen because neighbours genuinely benefit. Hidden generosity can be wise, but fear of visibility must not become an excuse for silence when justice requires public action.
At the same time, spiritual performance bends light back toward the lamp. Jesus directs glory to the Father.
Choose one practical good that makes life safer, fairer or more hopeful for someone else. Let usefulness, not applause, guide how visible it needs to be.
Pause and notice
A few questions to sit with
- Who benefits from the light in this image?
- Where is public action necessary?
- How can visibility serve God rather than your image?
Pray
Father of lights, make our shared life useful and brave. Free us from performance and let our actions bring real good to our neighbours. Amen.
Carry it with you
End three drawn rays with one act of mercy, one act of justice and one act of welcome. Complete one this week.
